What it fits

Probe for the WiFi thermometer

Spare or additional probe for the EQUINOX T-4 thermometer (four come in the box: 2 × 2 m and 2 × 1 m).

Probe for the column controller

The EQUINOX-RK.10 controller works with four probes and can be expanded to six - this probe can serve as the fifth or sixth measuring point.

Probe for a still

Boiler, buffer, plate, condenser - you name, calibrate and set an alarm for each probe in the app.

Lengths

  • Two lengths to choose from in the shop.
  • Other lengths to order - email us and we will match the probe to your column.

Common questions

What is a temperature probe?

A temperature probe is a sensor on a flexible cable that measures the temperature at a specific point, for example inside a product or a liquid. Popular DS18B20 digital probes work from -55 °C to +125 °C with an accuracy of ±0.5 °C (between -10 °C and +85 °C). The cable lets you place the sensor exactly where you need it and read the result remotely, for example on a WiFi thermometer.

How does a digital temperature probe work?

A temperature probe is a measuring element, usually a digital sensor on a cable, that converts temperature into a signal read by a thermometer or controller. The DS18B20 offers a resolution of up to 0.0625 °C and a range of -55 °C to +125 °C. Cables of different lengths let you immerse the sensor directly in must, meat or another medium without moving the display.

What is a temperature probe used for?

A temperature probe is a sensor on a cable that measures the temperature at a chosen point and sends the reading to a thermometer or controller. It is used wherever precision matters: checking the core temperature of smoked meat (usually 72-75 °C for safety), keeping an eye on fermentation (yeast is usually most active at 18-28 °C, depending on the strain) or monitoring fruit liqueurs while they mature. DS18B20 sensors work from -55 °C to +125 °C.

How do I test a temperature probe?

Put the probe in a mixture of ice and water and check that it reads 0 °C (±0.5 °C, which is the accuracy of the DS18B20). Then put it in boiling water and compare the reading with 100 °C. If the readings are within tolerance, the probe is working correctly. Unstable readings or no reading at all usually mean a damaged cable or connector.

What is the probe on a thermometer?

The probe is the measuring part of a thermometer: a sensor placed directly in the medium being measured (meat, must, liquid) that sends the reading to the display or WiFi module. In thermometers with a DS18B20 sensor, the probe is a sealed digital sensor in a steel sheath, resistant to moisture and high temperatures. Without a probe, a thermometer can only measure the ambient temperature, not the spot you are actually interested in.

Where can a temperature probe be used?

A temperature probe is a precise sensor that measures temperature right where it matters: in a smoker chamber, in a fermenting batch, in a water bath or inside the product. DS18B20 sensors in a sealed steel housing work from -55 °C to +125 °C. Connected to a WiFi controller, the probe lets you hold the set temperature without constant supervision.

How do I check with a thermometer that meat is cooked?

Insert the probe into the thickest part of the meat, away from the bone. Minimum internal temperatures: poultry (chicken, turkey) 74 °C; pork 71 °C; beef and lamb (steaks) 57-71 °C depending on how well done you like them; fish 63 °C; raw sausages 71 °C. The cooking method (oven, smoker, grill, sous vide) does not change the rule: what counts is the temperature in the centre, not the time on the clock.

What is a temperature probe called?

The temperature probe used in WiFi thermometers and controllers is the DS18B20 sensor, a digital semiconductor thermometer in a steel housing (often called an encapsulated probe or cable probe). It measures temperatures from -55 °C to +125 °C with an accuracy of ±0.5 °C. Common names include DS18B20 probe, temperature sensor and thermal probe; it is sometimes loosely called a thermocouple, although that is technically incorrect.
